VALHALLA 2 REFERENCE CABLES
With their introduction in 2001, Valhalla cables became a benchmark for performance in the consumer electronics industry and a great success for Nordost — but by 2013 it was time for a new Reference range. Over the years we have been able to develop cutting edge production techniques and technological innovations that both improve the quality and precision of our manufacturing process and propel the capabilities of our products to previously unattainable levels. The Valhalla 2 range benefits from the gains of those years of research and development in every aspect of its construction.
While V2 cables remain true to the Nordost design philosophy, using silver-plated, OFC solid core conductors, extruded FEP insulation, a mechanically tuned construction, and asymmetrical grounding, the advances made from that jumping-point are astounding.
V2 cables use Dual Mono-Filament technology, along with an innovative, proprietary connector called the HOLO:PLUG®, designed to be the best possible interface between the cable and component. The combination of these two ground-breaking technologies allows Nordost products to perfectly match our philosophy of low mass design, optimal signal transfer and perfect impedance matching.
ODIN 2 SUPREME REFERENCE CABLES
For nearly a quarter of a century, Nordost has set the standard in hifi audio with their preeminent audio cables. First recognized for their groundbreaking flat speaker cable design, Nordost was later esteemed for the revolutionary Valhalla range, which upheld its status as an audiophile reference for over a decade, only to shock the industry and outdo themselves again with Odin.
Since 2008 Odin has personified the idol for which it was named. Odin, Nordost’s Supreme Reference Range, was designed to facilitate the perfect reproduction of sound. Using the most cutting edge technology of its time, Nordost succeed, or so they thought. However, in the past six years not only has technology advanced, but so have Nordost’s standards.
Today, after years of extensive research and development, great ingenuity and a sweeping application of industry knowledge, Nordost can firmly state that Odin 2 is the pinnacle of cable design. In unleashing every facet of a live performance—the delicate nuances, the booming crescendos, the instantaneous reaction of a staccato and even the precision in space and timing between the notes themselves—Odin 2 cables are unmatched. Such performance must be heard to be believed. Odin 2 doesn’t just set the standard; it blows the standards away.
QBASE AC DISTRIBUTION
The essence of the QBASE-Mark II concept is a straight-line AC distribution path, combined with star-earthed topology for connection to a clean ground. By eliminating any form of in-line filtering or active circuitry we maintain the lowest possible AC supply impedance, while a tiny lift in the earth impedance of all but one of the output sockets routes the signal grounds directly to the center of the star and the clean earth terminal. Clearly identified on the casework, this Primary Earth socket is at the center of your system’s performance, literally and metaphorically. It defines both the order in which you connect your components and also, their listening priority in your musical enjoyment, allowing you to further optimize the performance of your primary sources.
The sockets themselves are mounted on a customized frame plate and solidly constructed aluminum extrusion with machined end-caps that deliver a reassuring sense of substance. But the casework has far greater significance than that, the metal pieces and internal PCB (deliberately preferred to hard-wiring) constituting a single, mechanically tuned construction, designed specifically to enhance performance. Compare the musical performance of the QBASE-Mark II to the competition and you’ll hear just how effective this is.
QBASE-Mark II units are available in four different models. US, European and Australian versions are available in four and eight output configurations, while the dimensions of the UK 13A socket mean that it is only available as a six-way unit. Each unit now includes a dedicated fuse, providing overcurrent protection of the source circuit to prevent overheating and system damage. A QBASE-Mark II unit is the perfect starting point in the construction of a high-quality, modular AC supply for your system. Its compact dimensions mean that it can be easily combined with one or more Qx power purifiers and outfitted with Qv2 AC Line Harmonizers and Qk1 AC Enhancers as funds allow, while its slim profile makes it ideal for tucking away behind a rack or mounting on the wall.
The QB8 Mark II is also available in a 20 Amp (US) / 16 Amp (EU, AUS) version that uses heavier gauge internal wiring in addition to being capable of handling more current.
A great deal of the electrical noise in hifi systems is caused by imperfections in the power domain. These imperfections may be generated by airborne pollution on the AC line that are induced, in part, by increasing amounts of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular signals. Airborne pollution can take the form of high frequency interference, noise, and stray magnetic fields, which lead to AC line contamination. A poor, or “unclean”, ground causes more performance imperfections than most people realize. Without an effective ground point, the entire foundation of your sound system becomes jeopardized—and unfortunately, most listening rooms simply do not have access to a designated line, attached to a ground rod. In these instances, a simple, effective, and internal option is needed: Nordost’s QKORE Ground Unit.
QX POWER PURIFIERS
QX2 and QX4 units are power purifiers that are affective without compromising the peak current capabilities of your power supply or the integrity of your grounding. Each QX unit contains QRT field generators (two in the QX2, four in the twice as powerful QX4) that alleviate the impact of poor quality AC power on your sensitive electronics, limiting RFI and timing errors. Place your QX unit(s) at the heart of your system and you’ll hear a lower noise floor, greater dynamic range, more fluid musical expression and greater space and ambience. QX units allow you to hear more of your music (and less of your system). Used in conjunction with each other as well as the QBASE-Mark IIs, Qv2s and Qk1s, both the QX2 and Qx4 provide a highly effective answer to the insidious influence of poor AC supplies on musical reproduction. And because of QRT’s modular approach to AC treatment, you can add additional units as you go along – they never become redundant. Once you’ve heard the sense of life and effortless musical flow that comes from having QRT technology in your system, you will want more – which is what makes the modular nature of the QRT products so appealing.
Qv2 AC LINE HARMONIZER
The QVIBE, Qv2 is an AC Line Harmonizer that is designed to enhance the musical performance and picture quality of any audio or video system, delivering readily demonstrable benefits at an incredibly affordable price. It can be used as a “stand alone” product or to complement a full QRT system including QBASE-Mark II, Qx4, Qx2 and Qk1 units. The Qv2 works directly on the AC line, introducing a carefully calculated range of pulsed frequencies, clocked from the original 50 or 60Hz waveform. The result is a drop in noise floor, with a commensurate increase in image depth, dimensionality and presence, significantly increasing the realism of both musical and visual performance.
Like other QRT products, the benefits are cumulative and Qv2s are even more impressive when used en masse. The compact, “plug-top” construction of the Qv2’s mechanically tuned housing allows it to be inserted into any free socket on your system’s AC line – although adding directly to a QBASE-Mark II maximizes the benefits.
Qv2 units are available in either US (NEMA) or EU (Schuko) configurations, and compatible with 50/60Hz 100 – 240V supplies. However, standard adaptors can be used to employ the Qv2 in other markets. The Qv2 is housed in a mechanically tuned carbon fiber and has high quality gold plated connection pins. It is built entirely in the USA and carries a two-year warranty.
QK1 AC ENHANCER
The QKOIL QK1 AC Enhancer uses a load resonating coil (LRC) to generate a passive electronic field that has a beneficial sonic effect on the AC current.
Like the QV2, The QKOIL provides a vital solution to the issues of AC quality and audio/video performance, but unlike the QVIBE, the new QK1 achieves this by using an LRC furnished with Nordost’s patented Micro Mono-Filament technology. Using our MMF technology in a loading application prevents time delay and distortion of the transmitted signal, making the AC current that much closer to the desired “distortionless condition”. The Sensory results: an improvement in the overtones and pacing of the music as well as a greater sharpness, depth and focus of visual qualities.
The QKOIL is the entry level product in the QRT range, a family of modular, non-intrusive innovations that deliver measurable sonic enhancements and provide power in the purist way. Like other QRT products, the benefits are cumulative and QK1s are even more impressive when applied collectively. It can be used as a “stand alone” product or to complement a full QRT system with QBASE-Mark II, QX4, QX2 and especially QV2 units..
The QK1 is housed in a mechanically tuned carbon-fiber body and equipped with either a US (NEMA) or EU (Schuko) connector. It is compatible with voltages from 110V to 240V, and can be used with an AUS or UK adaptor if required. Plug the QKOIL into any spare socket on your system’s AC Line and experience first-hand the surprising yet indisputable effect it will have on you’re A/V components.
